Rev David Meredith | Minister

David came to Smithton-Culloden Free Church in September 1984. He was brought up in Paisley and Skye and later graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, before studying theology at the Free Church College in Edinburgh. Smithton-Culloden is his first and only charge. David is married to Nina and they have four children. He names among his other interests politics and motorbikes and says he has a sense of humour.

Rev Murdo Macleod | Associate Minister, Nairn

“Mud” is Associate Minister with special responsibility for the work in Nairn, where he and his wife Maggie and two children live. Born and brought up in Glasgow, to Lewis parents, his favourite colour is blue. Before studying for the ministry Mud worked with The Banner of Truth Trust in Edinburgh for many years. He has an extensive repertoire of corny jokes which he is happy to share with anyone who will listen.

Charlie Anderson | Church Manager

Charlie ensures the smooth running of the church. Having been in Smithton since the early years, and having served as an elder and as Church Treasurer for most of that time, Charlie has intimate knowledge of the workings of the church. He has also been involved in children’s work and small group leadership and, with his wife Susan and two children, has offered hospitality to many over the years. Now in (early) retirement, he relishes fresh challenges.

Ali MacDonald | Family Worker

Ali co-ordinates our work among families in the congregation and in the community. She has been a member of the congregation for many years and has been heavily involved in work with young people both in Smithton and in the wider Free Church, having led many summer camps. Ali lives life in the fast lane; she fits in more in 24 hours than most of us accomplish in a week.

Iain Taylor | Ministry Assistant

Iain will have a broad role supporting the pastoral ministry within the congregation, with a particular focus on youth work. He became a Christian in early 2005 while attending his parents local church in Shettleston and since then has been involved in various ministries in a number of churches in and around the Glasgow area. Iain studied for 2 years at GLO Bible College on a Youth / Outreach worker course and latterly was working for himself with a small IT business offering IT services. Iain likes motorbiking, rock climbing, reading, playing guitar, DIY, baking and cooking. He and his wife Kerry have a baby boy, Caleb.

Eric Halkett | Church Officer

Eric retired to Inverness from Hamilton with his wife Morag. This was something of a return to Eric’s roots, for his grandfather was a Hospital Sergeant in the Cameron Highlanders. Another Strathclyde graduate, Eric previously worked in electrical engineering and computer programming and has always been very involved with the Boys’ Brigade. His other interests include hillwalking and Scottish country dancing.
